Plaquenil is the name of the medicine? its a brand. what. Plaquenil is the name of the medication and it does have a generic brand name called Hydroxychlor. I have been taking it for 10 years with no effects to my retinas, but I have to have a visual filed done yearly to make sure that I have no problems. The retinal problems are reversable when the medication is stopped.
