List of Drugs to be Avoided by Patients with Congenital Long QT Syndrome LQTS* updated July 2013 *This list is not comprehensive but is meant to be a practical list for those clinicians managing patients with LQTS in Canada. The authors concluded that while the QT interval prolongation occurred in this population, its clinical impact was questionable. It is important to note that the observed QT prolongation was within the previously measured change of 1.6 ms to 22 ms and within the same time frame of 4 to 11 minutes after administration. Long qt syndrome is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 60+ old also take medication Quinine, and have Muscle spasms. This study is created by eHealthMe based on reports of 48,911 people who have side effects when taking Plaquenil from Food and Drug Administration FDA, and is updated regularly.

The patient was noted to have mild prolongation of the QT interval on electrocardiogram prior to initiation of hydroxychloroquine therapy which was exacerbated by its use and may have been caused due to toxicity from underlying renal failure. The patient was treated with mexiletine to prevent sudden ventricular arrhythmias, which was unique compared to other documented cases in which lidocaine was used.

Plaquenil and antacids? As far as I know the advice is to make sure that antacids and Plaquenil are taken at least 4 hours apart. If they are taken together - effectiveness decreases but 4 hours apart is OK. Never do tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow!
