The Rheumatologists I saw were of the opinion that since I was already on steroids I just needed monitoring not any other meds. It's most important role is to inhibit progression of the disease -- I'm really surprised you haven't been on it ever since the Lupus was diagnosed. Plaquenil is effective for Lupus patients, as well as people with UCTD described to me by a rheumatologist as "Lupus-like" or "Lupus-lite" or "mild Lupus". So it's very possible to be on Plaquenil without having a formal Lupus diagnosis. To get a Lupus diganosis you need to have 4 or more of 11 Lupus criteria, within a 5 year period. I am now on several medications for lupus and other things. Plaquenil takes several months to become effective.

I used Darvocet for years with no side effects and was able to get out & live a semi-normal life. I asked her if the Plaquenil would help with the pain but she indicated it probably wouldn't.
