Does anyone take methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine and has anyone had problems with hydroxychloroquine. Yep I have been on these two for 3 years, plus Humira for 2 yrs, had eyes checked plaquinil damage to eyes is rare. I take 200 mg plaquinil daily,& 20 mg MTX & bloods / liver coping fine, everyone is different but I seem to tolerate well. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as. Humira adalimumab is good for treating many autoimmune conditions, but it can also cause serious side effects. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an effective medication for autoimmune conditions and malaria that comes with less side effects than other DMARDs.

Recently my eyes have felt sore and, after posting a question on this site, I am seeing my GP on Monday. Thanks Hi Catjones I have been taking this combination, started on both of them in January this year.

Methotrexate vs plaquenil side effects long term and short term The only problem is the Plaquenil causes severe headaches that interfer with my daily activities also. But the Dr suggested I try Methotrexate instead. Methotrexate MTX, trade names Trexall™ and Rheumatrex™ is the most commonly used DMARD in the treatment of RA, in up to 80% of patients in some studies. MTX is a folic acid analog, which when administered in high doses blocks purine and pyrimidine synthesis. I am on both methotrexate and plaquenil. I have been on plaquenil for over a year and a half and methotrexate since September. I have had no side effects from either one. I get my eyes checked every six months and I am now at once a month on blood work for my liver enzymes used to be every 2 weeks.
